Holidaymakers and locals get together on café terraces at nightfall for live concerts every year!
Potted history: Le Grau-du-Roi comes from sand and water! A marine lake formed and freshwater from inland fed into it. Over time a passage formed between the sea and lake: a “grau” meaning passage in Occitan. Le Grau-du-Roi was founded on this gateway that formed from the 13th century onwards.
Espiguette is an untamed nature site, it’s protected but fragile. Its signature lighthouse is visible from miles away!
It is now a listed and protected nature site! Its stunning dune hills and marshlands form a one-of-a-kind Mediterranean area that we must protect.
Must-visits: Seaquarium (and Requinarium, the only centre in Europe devoted to sharks), the old lighthouse, Villa Parris, Maison du Dauphin and the port.
The essential aquarium for a stay as close to nature as possible! Discovering the Seaquarium means changing your way of seeing! The different worlds of the Seaquarium are completely interactive, allowing you to learn while having fun! A visit full of relaxation and discovery, to be shared with the family for maximum pleasure!
And that’s not all! Discover also the Requinarium: a unique space in Europe, entirely dedicated to sharks! The Seaquarium is the number one shark attraction in France!
As always, the discovery of a region necessarily includes its gastronomy! In Grau-du-Roi there is one in particular that you should not miss: the octopus rouille! The Graulenne rouille is cooked according to the fishermen’s recipe! This typical dish is composed of octopus, potatoes and aïoli! A real delight for a successful holiday in the sun!
